You know the design.
The schematic's knowledge record links to its recipe and output. Encountered-but-incomplete schematics can also show Reverse Engineering reconstruction progress before they become Known.
A schematic is durable design knowledge recorded in your Database. Knowing it unlocks production of the associated recipe, but materials, facility access, credits, and manufacturing capability still determine whether you can actually build it—and how well.

Station inventory, credits, the required Fabricator or Shipyard tier, available facility allocation, manufacturing skill, engineering knowledge, Crew support, and design complexity all affect the production attempt.
The current Database shows which schematics are encountered, known, or partially reconstructed. You can pin important schematics to the top of the Database, then open the Info view to see the exact resource requirements at your current station, how much you already have, and how many complete runs those materials support.
Some schematics begin as known knowledge, some can appear as knowledge objects in loot or markets, and manufactured equipment can be sacrificed through Reverse Engineering to reconstruct an unknown design. The exact acquisition path is authored per design rather than coming from one universal schematic vendor.
