Science-Enhanced Technology

At a station with Research service, compatible Studied Science can be consumed to specialize one existing property on a physical equipment item or hull that is physically present there.

Science does not invent new capabilities.Only authored, compatible properties already exposed by that equipment or hull are offered. Science cannot create a new slot, change hull size, invent doctrine, or add an unrelated system.

MANUFACTURING

Build an exceptional base item.

Craftsmanship, design familiarity, materials, and production choices create the physical object.

SCIENCE

Push one compatible property farther.

The first Science application permanently locks that physical item or hull to the chosen property. Later applications are upgrades only: they must target that same property and be stronger than the existing enhancement.

The research identity matters.

Studied Science preserves its research family, source band, rarity, and affinities from the raw evidence. The Research Lab only offers properties whose authored affinity is compatible with that Science. Source band and rarity help determine the strength of the offered result, so where the evidence came from continues to matter after Study.

Science remains separate from manufacturing quality and condition.

The game keeps treatment/tuning, craftsmanship, Science enhancement, and condition as separate physical layers. The Info view can show the pre-Science value, Science modifier, realized value, source research identity, and where/when the enhancement was applied.

Exceptional hardware can have several layers of history.

A difficult design can be recovered and reconstructed, manufactured by a specialist at high craftsmanship, then enhanced using Studied Science from a particular environment. Those histories remain attached to the same physical item rather than collapsing into one generic rarity number.
