Condition & Repair
A fitted ship is not permanently frozen at factory performance. Activity wear, environmental burden, combat, and operating below recommended Expertise can damage the ship and age installed component instances over time.
CONDITION
Physical state affects realized capability.
Installed components track current condition as well as persistent durability ceilings. Wear can lower current condition, reduce the ceiling ordinary maintenance can reach, and slowly reduce maximum durability itself.
Activity / combat / environment→Wear & damage→Condition + durability loss→Reduced capability→Maintain or repair
Routine Crew maintenanceRuns in the background outside combat/patrol and restores installed components only toward their current maintenance cap.
Repair activityDedicated Repair uses the ship's repair capability and people to address damage rather than relying only on passive upkeep.
Station repairA station with Repair service can restore armor, hull, overall ship condition, and component condition up to each item's current maximum durability for credits.
Permanent agingRepair restores condition; it does not erase the maximum-durability loss already accumulated by that physical component.
OPERATING BURDEN
How you use the ship changes how quickly it ages.
Different activities wear the systems actually doing the work. Environmental stress and under-recommended Expertise can add further wear, so a high-output fit may also create a more demanding maintenance economy.
