Hazards & Environments

Danger is not one number. A place can be safe from pirates and still be physically hostile to the ship, or politically dangerous while being environmentally mild.

Hazard, security, scan difficulty, and physical environment are separate authored layers.A location's generic opportunity/risk value does not automatically determine its combat exposure, survey difficulty, or environmental pressure.
RadiationCreates radiation exposure after installed protection is applied.
ThermalRepresents external thermal pressure rather than ordinary internal component heat.
CryogenicRepresents extreme-cold operating pressure on machinery and people.
ElectromagneticRepresents field interference and related system burden.
ParticulateDust, debris, and abrasive environments can create especially strong wear pressure.
PressureAtmospheric or fluid-pressure environments can create their own protection requirement.
SecurityCore, developed, contested, and remote are separate world-security identities rather than environmental protection values.

Protection is compared dimension by dimension.

The ship resolves its environmental protection against the location or active site's authored exposure. Any remaining exposure becomes residual stress. That residual can increase equipment wear, raise sustainable Crew fatigue and stress, and reduce activity efficiency rather than collapsing every environment into one generic penalty.

Some environments require a real physical minimum.

If a location or temporary site authors a hard minimum for a dimension, the fitted ship must meet that protection threshold before the operation can begin. Where no hard minimum exists, the dimension remains a soft-stress problem: you may choose to operate underprepared and accept the consequences.
